Philosophy

Kapp Educational Therapy Group believes that every student can be taught how to learn in a way that works for them. With the right "tool box," every student can learn to advocate for themselves and take responsibility for their learning. Our goal for every client is for them to become a successful, independent and autonomous learner. We love working with learners and families of varying learning profiles including executive functioning support, ADHD, reading and writing remediation, dyscalculia, and processing disorders.  Our approach is fun, engaging, and focused on the individualized needs of each learner.

Rachel Kapp, M.A., ET/P, Owner

Rachel grew up in Los Angeles. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Sociology and minored in Jewish Studies. Rachel began tutoring students in high school, eventually choosing to pursue a career in education. For over six years, Rachel was a lead preschool teacher where she gained a firm foundation in explicit teaching. Rachel has been a tutor in private practice since 2004, working with students in a variety of subjects including all levels of math, reading, history and writing. After working with so many types of students over the years and realizing she was passionate about building relationships with and helping students who learn differently, Rachel decided to pursue Educational Therapy. She completed her coursework at the California State University, Northridge in December 2015 and Masters degree in December 2016. In her free time, Rachel loves spending time with her husband, Adam, and their dog, Fritzy, watching Cal Football, cooking for friends, and spinning.

Rachel is a Professional Level Member of the Association of Educational Therapists and active participant in ongoing education through the International Dyslexia Association. She is also trained in Wilson Reading Systems.

Katie Cadigan, Educational Therapist, M.A., ET/A

Katie was born and raised in Los Angeles. She decided to try out the east coast for college and received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The George Washington University. After graduating, Katie moved back home to sunny California and began her career working with kids at a charter school in Santa Monica. Inspired by her personal educational experience, Katie pursued a Masters of Arts in Special Education from Loyola Marymount University. She still desired the luxury of offering her students more individualized attention. As a result, she then went on to pursue her post-Masters Certificate in Educational Therapy.

Katie works closely with the International Dyslexia Association and is trained in Wilson Reading Systems as well as Wilson Foundations Level 1. Additionally, she is a member of the Association of Educational Therapists. Katie understands the importance of explicitly teaching students executive function skills whether it be organizing their time, breaking an assignment down into smaller parts or strategies for studying. She has experience using the SMARTS executive function program to help empower students to understand their own strengths and weaknesses.

In her free time, Katie enjoys snuggling on the couch with her dog and two cats and reading detective mysteries.

Maria Eliades, Learning Specialist

Maria was born and raised in Philadelphia. Eager to pursue her interests in a new city, she received her Bachelors of Arts in Theatre with an acting emphasis and minor in screenwriting from the University of Southern California. She began her journey in education as a teaching assistant for children’s theatre classes at the 24th Street Theatre. This led to her expanded interest in teaching and learning, guiding her towards other educational opportunities.

Maria has spent nearly 5 years as a mentor and educational pacer at Lindamood- Bell. During this time, Maria focused on differentiating instruction to ensure that each student was provided with the best possible approach to aid the development of their reading and comprehension. Her number one priority is making sure each student is given a safe environment to learn as well as the positivity to help them believe they can accomplish their goals. She supports students with a variety of organizational approaches including planning, scheduling and outlining. By breaking down and prioritizing tasks, she guides students toward accomplishing their goals.

Maria never stops working. If she isn’t in session with a student, she’s at an audition or writing a script. When she manages to find a little free time, she loves to travel, read, and play softball.

Andrea London, Reading Specialist

Andrea is from San Diego and got her Bachelors of Arts in Journalism from the University of Arizona, where she also met her husband. Andrea started working with kids at an early age, from being a teacher's assistant at elementary summer programs, homework helper, and camp counselor as she got older. After college, she moved to Los Angeles and briefly pursued public relations and journalism but ultimately decided to change career paths and become a teacher, which she discovered was her true passion. Andrea was a lead Pre-K teacher for eight years and left the classroom to raise her son. She found a way to merge her two loves, children and reading, with the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education, training in the Orton-Gillingham program. Additionally, she employs strategies from a variety of reading programs (including Read Naturally) and creates her own reading tools for her students. Andrea's approach is warm, loving and goal-directed. When she is not working Andrea is chasing her energetic toddlers around, playing with her dogs, hanging outdoors, traveling/adventuring and, of course, reading.

Cory Zacker, Business Manager

Cory was a lifelong New Yorker up until 2014 when she happily traded coasts. She has a B.A. in Communications and over 20 years of experience running businesses and helping others grow theirs. Cory's biggest teacher has been her now 21-year-old son who struggled with learning challenges from an early age. Through advocating for him, she was able to see what worked and what did not. This led her to opening her own tutoring agency in New York City and serving on the Board of Directors of her son's special education elementary school. She also was a regular contributor to the Huffington Post where she blogged on parenting and education. Cory continued her work in education once relocating to Los Angeles, serving as the Director of Admissions and Outreach at a South Bay private school. She now runs her own Virtual Assistant business, helping entrepreneurs, business owners and the private sector with everything it takes to be a success. In her free time, Cory enjoys traveling the country, hiking, music and spending time with her son.
